It’s BRICK TIME! So the catalyst for this project was free bricks. It is time to go and get those bricks. Jim helped me go and get them in his truck. Not bad but definitely got my exercise for the day. I calculated the bricks needed and it came to just under 400. Didn’t sound that hard but let me tell you that hauling 400 bricks by hand does take some time.
To add, the pile we took this from had not moved in about 10 years. There were roots, dirt, mold, and yes, a HUGE spider. Actually hundreds of spiders but this one looked like a tarantula. It was seriously huge.
Cleaned and organized, by the end of the day, all bricks were in my driveway.
LEARNED TIP: Online brick calculators estimate bricks in the traditional structural method which is to say short side facing out, and wide dimension as the wall. In my application I was actually less interested in insulation and more interested in keeping the wall width as thin as possible. To this end I turned the bricks on their thin side so that the wide face, faced out. This produced a bit more of a cobblestone feel but I really liked it so I was ok with it.
